Host Stories

Why hosts set their own prices

Most travel platforms set the price and take the difference. The person actually running the experience finds out what their afternoon is worth after the fact, and has very little say in it.

We are building Queer Hosted the other way round. The host designs the experience, decides the group size and sets the price. If they want to run something small and slow for four people, that is a valid business. It does not have to scale to be worth doing.

This has a cost. The catalogue will be uneven and prices will vary between two cities that look similar on paper. We think that is a fair trade for experiences that are actually made by someone, rather than assembled by a category manager.

It also changes who shows up to host. When the money is honest, the people who stay are the ones who like doing it, not the ones squeezing a margin out of a script they were handed.

Every listing will show what the host earns. Not because it is a marketing line, but because a marketplace that hides that is usually hiding something.
